Selfless Kane says Spurs smash-and-grab ´exactly what we set out for´

Harry Kane was delighted with the way Tottenham grabbed a 2-0 victory against Arsenal on Sunday, even as he was again tasked with defensive duties.

Kane created a brilliant opener for Son Heung-min and netted a similarly impressive second on the stroke of half-time following a pass from the same team-mate.

Spurs were on the back foot throughout, the second goal coming from one of their two fast breaks as Arsenal bossed 69.2 per cent of the possession.

But as Jose Mourinho s men went back to the top of the Premier League table, cheered on by 2,000 returning supporters, Kane hailed the hosts performance.

Fantastic, he told Sky Sports. [It was] exactly what we set out for.

We played well in the first half; the second half was a bit of a grind, but …

Lallana cools Liverpool exit talk

Adam Lallana insists he remains committed to Liverpool despite reported interest from Premier League counterparts Tottenham.

Lallana, 28, joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2014 for £25million and has gone on to make almost 100 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals.

However, recent reports have linked Lallana with a move away from Anfield to link up with his former Southampton boss Pochettino at Tottenham.

But Lallana admitted it would be very difficult to leave Liverpool, especially with the club set to compete in its second cup final in 2016.

I’ve got three years left on my contract here, the midfielder said on Monday.

It was only last season that people might have read that I was leaving and thought Yes, let s get him out . …

Superb England win as we all hope it isn’t another false dawn

Just when you thought that a decent England performance was impossible, they go and win at Croatia 4-1. It was a very good performance indeed.

Well, that’s the international break finished with, thank goodness. Does anyone else find the suspension of the domestic leagues and the international matches being played to be a complete pain in the a**e?

As an England fan I am faced with the dubious pleasure of having to analyse the performance of our over paid, over hyped, primma Donnas. Actually, I don’t really feel that way but you can’t call yourself an English football writer unless you use at least one of those descriptions when writing about our players. Even after they do the business like they did last night.

Delph keen to extend Villa stay

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has insisted that he has no intention of seeking a move elsewhere,.

The 24 year old has endured a largely frustrating time since signing from Leeds United in January 2012 having spent much time on the side-lines.

However, he appeared in all but four of the club’s league games last season, scoring three times, and was named player of the season by the Villa fans.

His form even saw some call for him to be recognised internationally at senior level, having won just two caps for the U21’s in his career so far.

He is entering the final year of his contract with the Midlands club, but is keep to sign a new deal to pay back the faith owner Randy Lerner has shown in him.

Van Persie confident Arsenal will go the distance to win Premier League title

Robin van Persie backed Arsenal to fend off the threat of Manchester City and win the Premier League for the first time since the 2003-04 season.

The Gunners entered the international break with an eight-point lead over Pep Guardiola s defending champions, who have a game in hand, and are just 10 games away from clinching glory.

A tough month lies ahead for Arsenal in April, with trips to face Liverpool and City as well as a home clash with Chelsea, while high-flying Newcastle United await in May.

Arsenal have fallen short in their quest to end their Premier League trophy drought and the side s inexperience in such situations raises concern, though former captain Van Persie sees no such issues.

Arsenal are doing really well, they play consistently. They …

Germany 2 Scotland 1: Muller double downs plucky visitors

Thomas Muller struck twice as world champions Germany started their bid to reach Euro 2016 with a 2-1 Group D win over a plucky Scotland.

A 4-2 friendly defeat to Argentina on Wednesday raised alarms in the Germany camp and, although Joachim Low s men were far from their best in Dortmund, an improved performance earned the hosts three points.

Muller headed Germany in front in the 18th minute of a first half that they dominated, but Scotland greatly improved after the interval and levelled through Ikechi Anya.

The visitors joy lasted just four minutes, though, as Muller s scrappy second – bundled home from five yards after Scotland failed to clear a corner – proved enough to see off Gordon Strachan s brave side, who had Charlie Mulgrew sent off for a second ye…

Atletico reignite interest in Diego

that Atletico Madrid are ready to return for Wolfsburg midfielder Diego Ribas da Cunha.

The Brazilian playmaker had been made one of club s top targets this summer, but the club officials opted to shelve talks for Diego while they were looking to sign a perfect replacement for Radamel Falcao.

Having signed David Villa from Barcelona at a cut-back price, los Colchoneros are now ready to resume negotiations for their former player.

Diego is eager to return to Vicente Calderon after spending the 2011/2012 season there, but his €5 million yearly wage could prove to be obstacle to any deal.

Nevertheless, Atletico Madrid chiefs are hoping the appeal of Champions League football will prove enough for the player to accept a pay cut and facilitate a move to Ma…
