Aleksander Ceferin kept FA in dark over decision not to stand for another term

Aleksander Ceferin kept the Football Association in the dark about his intention not to stand for another term as UEFA president in 2027 prior to announcing it to the media on Thursday.

The Slovenian said he had known for six months that he would not run again, but had delayed going public because he wanted to see the “real face” of some of those close to him.

He said it had been “amusing” to watch “hysteria” build around the prospect of him staying on until 2031, and made his announcement at a press conference after UEFA Congress rather than confirming it in his Congress speech to member associations.

Schalke terminate Boateng contract

Schalke have agreed to terminate the contract of attacking midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Boateng who moved to Schalke from AC Milan in August 2013 is expected to rejoin the Serie A club and has already been training and playing in friendlies with them for over two months.

The Ghana international was suspended by Schalke following May s 2-0 defeat at Cologne, with the club blaming a  lack of mutual trust and informing Boateng he could find a new club.

And a statement on Schalke s official website read: FC Schalke 04 and Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng have decided to mutually terminate his contract at the club. The terms of the agreement will remain undisclosed.

Villa captain Grealish suffers injury setback

Jack Grealish has suffered a setback in his injury recovery and will be absent for another few weeks , Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has confirmed.

Attacking midfielder Grealish has missed Villa s last seven matches due to a shin complaint, with Smith s side winning only two of those games.

The Villa captain will now sit out the clash with Liverpool at Anfield this weekend and is likely to remain a doubt for when they next play, against Manchester City on April 21.

Bayern to bid for De Bruyne

German daily newspaper that Bayern Munich may submit a mega money offer for Wolfsburg star Kevin De Bruyne.

The Bavarians were the first high-profile club to try and recruit the Belgium hotshot this summer, but they then pulled out of the race as the Wolves looked unlikely to sell.

But, with Manchester City now reportedly closing on a deal for De Bruyne, Bayern appear to have rekindled their interest.

The Bavarians are aware that Wolfsburg may be forced to sell in case of a big money offer and they are ready to challenge the Citizens for the midfielder s signature.

And even though De Bruyne recently suggested he would be staying with Wolfsburg for another season, the summer exit looks increasingly likely.

Man Utd confirm Jones to miss rest of Europa League campaign

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained why Phil Jones was not included in Manchester United s travelling party to Germany for the Europa League. 

United will play Copenhagen in the last eight in Cologne on Monday, with the final stages of the tournament trimmed down due to the coronavirus pandemic derailing the 2019-20 season. 

Solskjaer and his squad departed from Manchester on Sunday but centre-back Jones – who has made just eight appearances in all competitions during the campaign – was not included. 

The United boss revealed Jones has remained in Manchester as he recovers from a knee problem which has kept him out since the restart in June.

Real Salt Lake and Orlando City both claimed Decision Day victories to book their spots in the 2022 MLS playoffs on a dramatic final day of the regular season.

Serbia fans clash with Italian police

Sixteen people were hospitalised early Wednesday after Serbian fans clashed with Italian police following the two countries cancelled Euro 2012 qualifying match in Genoa, northern Italy.

In violence before, during, and after the match, some Serbian fans targeted not just Italian fans and local police but their own team s goalkeeper.

Police made 17 arrests, Ansa news agency reported, citing officials.

Buses carrying Serbian fans were later escorted out of the city by police to avoid further clashes with Italian fans.

Officers seized sticks, metal bars and knives from the Serbian fans, as well as a bag carrying large explosive fireworks.

The violence brought sharp condemnation from Italy and Serbia.
